north margin of the graben, Gatineau, Quebec

Ottawa-Bonnechere graben

Extending for some 700 km, it begins east of Montreal, where it intersected the paleo-shelf margin of Laurentia forming a major fluvial course in the Cambrian. The graben incorporates the Ottawa Valley through eastern Ontario, then extends northwest of Ottawa defined by the river course, extending to Mattawa where it splits with one structural arm trending to North Bay and Lake Nipissing and the other (referred to as the Timiskaming graben) NNE to the New Liskeard - Timiskaming region.

Along with graduate students, I have examined the Cambrian through Ordovician geology along most of the graben with publications in scientific journals. However, the changing landscape, history of the Ottawa River (both geological, social, economic) and beauty of parts of the graben demand a pictoral approach.

The idea is to put together a visual essay of the graben, a coffee-table type production.
