There is no better place to take students to see great field geology than eastern California and northern Nevada.  Death Valley, Long Valley caldera, and the Great Basin - tons of things to see!  And we had some oddball weather - thunderstorms in Death Valley and snow in the Clan Alpine Mountains!  Thanks to the graduate students for putting together an excellent field guide, and to Nadine Wittig for being a superb co-leader!
